Drift HD Ghost cam gets Wi-Fi, 2-inch screen with editing ability, more

Drift Innovation has just detailed its latest action sports camera, the Drift HD Ghost. Unlike its more popular competition from GoPro and Contour, the new camera has some unique features built-in such as a built-in two-inch display, two-way LED remote, and a continuous loop video. The continuous loop mode makes it easy to catch that key moment, with a five-minute buffer when in Video Tag/Loop mode that can be saved once users press the 'tag' it.

The remote control can be worn on a user's wrist and has integrated color LEDs that indicate at a glance whether the camera is in video, photo, timelapse, or photoburst mode. The same lights are on the camera itself, while the remote has a wireless range of about 16 feet. It can also start and stop recordings and change function modes.

Wi-Fi is also built-in for communicating with smartphones thanks to a dedicated Drift Mobile app for Android and iOS, though these aren't yet out. Apart from full control over the camera's settings, users will also be able to transfer recorded content from the camera to their phone.

The screen is protected with Gorilla Glass and allows for composing shots, playing back recordings, and editing them right on the camera.

The 1,700mAh battery is said to provide up to three hours of life. Its housing is said to be waterproof up to nearly 10 feet. An accessory housing ups that to almost 200 feet.

The camera can record in up to 1080p resolution and has a built-in microphone, along with a 2.5mm microphone jack. Still photos are captured at 11 megapixels, with all content saved onto microSDHC cards. The lens offers a 170-degree viewing angle and can be rotated to compensate for various mounting orientations. A micro HDMI output lets users connect to HDTVs for playback.

The camera ships on November 19, priced at $399.
