Wii U gaming booths let potential buyers demo system

updated 10:11 am EST, Mon November 5, 2012

Nintendo launches Wii U Sampling Tour across US retailers

The Nintendo Wii U won't become available for sale in the US until November 18, but potentially interested buyers can try the system out starting November 5. Nearly 5,000 demonstration booths will be set up across US retailers that include Best Buy, GameStop, Target, Walmart, and Toys 'R' Us. They will either let shoppers play one of the launch titles or offer a video presentation of the console's features.

The Wii U Sampling Tour has a dedicated site where users can find the closest location to them where they can find a Wii U demo kiosk. Nintendo promise to expand the list of locations over time.

The Wii U continues the Nintendo tradition of motion control with the GamePad controller, though it looks simply like a large tablet. The Wii U is unique in that the GamePad can be used to game independently from the main TV screen or a sub-controller for in-game accessories. It brings local multiplayer gaming to a new level, as gamers in the same room can set up or perform game functions and interact with the display without revealing their decisions to anyone else in the room.
