Apple gives Siri new movie ticket purchasing capability

Apple's iOS 6.1, which is currently in beta testingwith developers, will bring with it the ability for users to use the Siri voice-controlled personal assistant to purchase movie tickets, reports 9to5Mac. The functionality is powered by Fandango and is actioned through normally spoken English requests to be able purchase movie tickets at a certain theater and time. Spoken commands could include "Three tickets to see Brave," or "Two tickets to that new Pixar movie."

Following the request, users will be able shown the selected movie and session details, which when actioned, will either launch the Fandango app automatically, or send users to the App Store to download and install the app before completing the purchase. The functionality is not available at all theaters, although an small movie ticket icon is shown in instances when tickets can be obtained. As with many new iOS 6 features, the new functionality is only available in the US at present.

Other discoveries in iOS 6.1 beta to date show that Apple has made the "Report a problem" link within the Maps app larger, leaving users in no doubt as to where and how they can report mapping anomalies. Music controls have also been completely revamped. The Passbook app gets some tweaks to show the date and location where a pass is valid, while also displaying the pass for a longer period.
