Orbis system based on AMD A10 APU

Game developers have started to receive development kits for the Playstation 4, according to reports. The systems, to be used by programming teams and game publishers while making next-gen titles, arrive just three months before another Playstation 4 development kit is set to be issued. As they are effectively a "modified PC", they offer no real clues to the system's external design, though some internal details have emerged.

Multiple sources of VG247 confirmed the system's delivery, the second in a series of four development kits. The third is expected in January alongside a public reveal of the console, close to the final system specifications, while a fourth will be with developers by the summer.

Codenamed "Orbis", the development system is based on the AMD A10 Accelerated Processing Unit, which is a combination of a CPU and GPU, with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM. The hard drive is said to be 256GB "as standard," and an optical drive has also apparently been confirmed for the console's launch.

It is alleged that the final specifications will make the machine have enough power for "today and tomorrow's market", and will have no issues in running 1080p games at 60FPS in 3D.
