Yuma 2 gets more storage space, newer Atom processor, more changes

Trimble has followed up its rugged Yuma tablet with the Yuma 2. It is also powered by Windows 7, like the past device, and is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, and there is 4GB of RAM onboard. It uses a 7-inch capacitive multitouch screen with 1,024x600 resolution and an anti-reflective coating.

As with other similar devices, the Yuma 2 is meant for field workers in the construction, transportation, public safety, forestry, and other outdoor service-related industries.

Storage space is set at 64GB, which is twice that of the original Yuma, with a 128GB SSD optional. The tablet meets IP67 standards for resistance to adverse weather conditions and MIL-STD810F/G spec for shock resistance.

Options include a dual-mode cellular modem for connecting to GSM or CDMA networks. Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi radios are standard fare. The dual battery is said to be good for up to eight hours of operation, though an extended battery doubles it.

A GPS accurate to within less than 13 feet is standard, and the five-megapixel camera geotags photos. It can also record video and has a built-in LED flash.
The tablet is expected to ship before year's end, though pricing is yet to be revealed. [via SlashGear]
