Grand Theft Auto: Vice City coming to iOS, Android

Marks 10th anniversary, features hi-res graphics

Rockstar Studios have announced that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will make its way to both the Android and iOS mobile platforms later this year in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the game. The company did the same thing last year with Grand Theft Auto III, and GTA: Vice City was first released on consoles almost exactly 10 years ago -- on October 29, 2002. Rockstars says it will offer the game on "select" devices, and include high-resolution artwork and gameplay enhancements for mobile devices.

The original game was modelled on Miami, Florida and featured an 80s soundtrack in the spirit of the television series Miami Vice. The company plans to issue a number of special products in conjunction with the game release, including original artwork, collectible items and a new anniversary trailer featuring some of the more memorable scenes and music from the original release.

In addition, notes phone site PhoneArena, the news from Rockstar also portends a possible release next year of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for mobile platforms. The company itself has said nothing about that possibility thus far.
