Update for 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini

Just a day after announcing a new iMac, Mac mini, and a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, Apple has already issued an update for the new machines that includes all the features and updates of the general OS X 10.8.2 release. The new version also boosts stability, compatibility and security fixes specific to the new models, including USB 3.0 reliability enhancements and fixes for improved graphics performance and reliability. Apple also updated its Camera RAW compatibility files and its pro audio software Logic Pro and Express.

The update patches the new Macs to allow an option to discard the changes in the original document when choosing Save As, disables notifications when AirPlay Mirroring is being used, and adds SSL support for Google searches from the Smart Search Field in Safari. There is a new preference to have Safari launch with previously-open webpages, unsent drafts are opened automatically when launching Mail, URLs are now automatically shortened when sending tweets from Notification Center and users can receive notifications for mentions or replies from any other Twitter user. The update is available through Software Update for all affected models.

Apple's pro audio software Logic 9. also received an update, bringing both the Pro and Express versions to 9.1.8. For both versions, the update fixes several bugs. Logic Pro users will see a fix to an issue that cause an Airport dialog box to appear and re-appear; resolves performance issues when using plug-ins that provide a lot of graphical feedback, and mends the behavior of additional client downloads in Lion and Mountain Lion.

Logic Express 9 users will also get a fix for the recurring Airport dialog boxes issue and the problem with plug-ins that provide user feedback data. The two updates are recommended for users of the Pro or Express versions. Detailed release notes are available for the Pro and Express technote pages.

Finally, Apple also updated its Camera RAW compatibility files on Wednesday, bringing with it compatibility with a wide variety of recently-released cameras. Models include the Canon EOS M; PowerShots G15, S110, and SX50 HS; the Nikon D600 and Nikon 1 D600. It also now supports the Panasonic LUMIX "DMC" additions, as well as the Sony Alpha NEX-F3 and Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100. The update works for the now-combined iPhoto 11 and Aperture libraries.
