Phones with 1080p screens due to arrive during first half of next year

South Korean electronic companies LG and Samsung are rumored to release smartphones with 1080p displays in the first half of 2013, daily paper MK News reported. LG is said to use LCDs for its screen, while Samsung will reportedly go with AMOLED technology. Such displays will have a minimum pixel density of 440ppi, compared to the current Apple iPhone's 326ppi screen.

HTC has already shown a handset, the J Butterfly (pictured), sporting a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels at 440ppi, with the handset sporting the display likely to be out before either LG's or Samsung's products with 1080p displays. Pantech, another Korean company, is also said to be releasing a 1080p display early next year, though no details on this device are known.

Sharp is also seemingly ready to out a 1080p display of its own, having started production earlier this month. It sports a 443ppi density.
