PayPal account and eBay user growth accelerating

The last quarter brought significant year-over-year revenue gains for eBay, the online marketplace reported today, with an improvement of 15 percent over the same quarter last year. The third quarter of this year saw eBay pull in $3.40 billion in revenues, up slightly from $3.39 billion for the second quarter, but a significant jump from 2011, when the company pulled in $2.97 billion. The company saw acceleration in the growth of its PayPal accounts and eBay user counts as well, and it raised its full year guidance.

eBay posted $0.55 in non-GAAP earnings per share, down from last quarter's $0.56, but up $0.07 from the same quarter last year. The company claims free cash flow generation of $792 million for the quarter, up $381 million from the previous quarter and $266 million year-over-year.

In total, eBay claims 117.4 million active registered accounts, up 14 percent year-over-year. Those accounts made 589.2 million payments last quarter, up 28 percent year-over-year.

For fiscal year 2012, eBay issued revenue guidance figures of $13.95 to $14.1 billion, with a non-GAAP earnings per share figure of $2.32 to $2.35.
