Five-inch handset unlikely to be released elsewhere

HTC is soon to release a long-awaited phone-tablet, with the initial launch taking place in Japan. The HTC J Butterfly, a previously rumored phablet set to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note line, has a five-inch HD Super LCD 3 display, capable of a 1920x1080 resolution, and a density of 440 pixels per inch.

Running on Android Jelly Bean, the handset is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and supported by 2GB of RAM, according to Impress. An eight-megapixel rear-facing camera can record videos at 1080p, and is accompanied by a front-facing 2.1-megapixel camera. A 2,020mAh battery, expandable 16GB of storage, Wi-Fi up to 802.11n, BlueTooth 4.0, NFC, LTE and IPX5-rated waterproofing round off the specifications.

As it is a model specially created for the carrier KDDI, it is highly unlikely for this device, set for a launch in December, to make its way outside of Japan. There is a chance that the high-density display may end up in other HTC releases in the future.
