Purported Sony Nexus X images show up on the web

updated 12:10 pm EDT, Mon October 15, 2012

New images suggest Google and Sony are teaming up one of the next Nexus handsets?

If a couple of images of a smartphone posted on the web are to be believed, Sony and Google are entering a new type of partnership. The handset in question is being touted as the Sony Nexus X, and shows off a Google badge on the back rather than any Xperia branding, as is the case with recent Sony handsets. For this and some other reasons, the images are believed to be faked.

Another inconsistency involves that LG's upcoming and rumored Nexus 4 handset may get With Google branding rather than just Google, as in this case. Earlier rumors have suggested Google will partner with multiple manufacturers on creating its next Nexus-branded phones. As with the original Galaxy Nexus built by Samsung, it's likely the handsets will focus on an unskinned and pure Android OS experience.

The images came from a Picasa account owned by Mutul Yeter and have no tech specs accompanying them. Also adding doubt as to the authenticity and originality of the images are the color gradations on the back of the handset and some slight icon misalignment on the home screen. Time will tell if this is a hoax or the sign of things to come. [via XperiaBlog]
