updated 11:11 pm EDT, Mon October 15, 2012

Combined companies provide mapping plus location tracking

Location-based data collector Geoloqi announced that is has been acquired by Esri, a long-time provider of online mapping and geographical trend analysis solutions for developers and the government. As part of the acquisition, all of Geoloqi's 1,000 customers would still be able to use the company's current products with no interruption in service.

In a statement, Jack Dangermond, Esri's president said "we are excited to have the team at Geoloqi and its technology become part of the Esri family. Geoloqi's capabilities and relationships with the developer community will build on Esri's already impressive suite of ArcGIS products to create more dynamic mobile and web applications."

Geologi's offices in Portland, OR will become a research and development center for Esri with no layoff plans announced. The Portland location is intended to "create improved, integrated products that accentuate the strength of a combined platform."

THe software and hardware developed by Geoloqi enables persistent background location tracking, intelligent battery management, and allows a device smooth transitions between location sources such as carrier signals, GPS and Wi-Fi for true real-time tracking. Additionally, Geoloqi provides rich location and analytics on how long a device remains in a given location, giving analysts the ability to examine and make sound business decisions on location data.
