Convertible tablet notebook weighs under 3 pounds

Sony is putting its convertible 11.6-inch Windows-8 slider on sale later this month. Introduced at IFA in Germany and last seen passing through the FCC in September, the Vaio Duo 11 can switch between being a tablet and a notebook, thanks to a mechanism that slides out the keyboard from behind the screen.

Weighing in at just under 3 pounds, it is powered by a choice of an Intel Core i3-3217U, Core i5-3317U, or Core i7-3517U processor, Intel HD 4000 graphics, 4GB of RAM upgradable to 8GB, and either a 128GB or 256GB solid state drive for storage. The Gorilla Glass IPS display can show a Full HD image, and acts as a capacitive touchscreen that can also support input from a dual digitizer pen, and has 256 levels of sensitivity. Both the front and rear-facing cameras have resolutions of two megapixels. Wi-Fi up to 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports, VGA and HDMI-out, and a combined Memory Stick Duo and SD memory card slot complete its main connectivity features.

The Vaio Duo 11 will be out on October 26th, the Windows 8 launch day, and will start from $1,100.
