Revamped PlayStation Store in North America on October 23

Sony PlayStation Store to get largest redesign to date in October

Sony showed off images of what a newly redesigned PlayStation store will look like at a London press event on Thursday. The details were shared by VG 24/7 and include new features as well as an all-new look for the digital storefront that's a showcase for the latest content for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PSP. Europe will get the update first, on October 17, while North American users will get to experience it on October 23.

The main page will how have a section for games, movies, and TV content, with the redesign meant to do a better job of highlighting new content. The look will be the same regardless of whether users have an HD or standard-definition TV.

The look does away with the blue background and focuses on the heros from games by placing large images of the high-profile characters from the games or movies on the screen. The pages scroll from left to right in a carousel-like setup.

The search feature has been improved and has some intelligence built-in, making up for users' spelling mistakes and abbreviations. As each letter is typed, the search will return reductive options, such as when typing street or city names in a GPS system in a given region, state, or city. This will continue to be refined as time goes on as well.

Users will also get the option of filtering content not only by type, but also price and the kind of peripherals it supports.

Browsing content for a specific system will arrive for the first time too, depending on if users own just a PS3 or one of the mobile gaming systems as well. Searching for content will continue to return content for all platforms, however.

Searching for a specific game will return all related content, such as downloadable content, demos, screen shots, and more.
