Droid Razr HD, Razr Maxx HD hit Verizon October 18

updated 02:16 pm EDT, Thu October 11, 2012

New Razrs sport bigger screens, bigger batteries

Verizon announced today that Motorola's Droid Razr HD and Razr Maxx HD will be available on its network beginning October 18. The two new smartphones -- unveiled by Motorola last month -- sport larger screens than the Razr M, also available on Verizon. In addition to larger screens, the two new Razrs pack in bigger batteries, allowing for much more time between charges.

The two phones sport 4.7-inch HD displays and 8MP cameras as well as premium materials such as Kevlar, aluminum, and Gorilla Glass. Inside, both have been treated with a water-repellant nanocoating, which should protect from spills and splashes. Both feature NFC technology, allowing users to beam contacts, documents, and maps to compatible phones. The two devices will run Android 4.0 upon release, but Motorola has promised an upgrade to Android 4.1 before the end of the year.

The main difference between the two models is the battery life. The Razr Maxx HD packs in an extra large battery that allows for up to 32 hours of normal use. Razr Maxx HD customers also have additional storage, with 32GB of internal space.

The two devices will go on sale on October 18. The Razr HD will sell for $200, and the Razr Maxx HD will sell for $300. Both prices are contingent upon the activation or renewal of a two-year contract.
