Ceton to ship Echo Windows Media Extender by Thanksgiving

updated 10:41 am EDT, Thu October 11, 2012

Ceton Echo extender is now much smaller, more power efficient, priced at $179

Ceton has announced pricing and an approximate ship date for its Echo Windows Media Center Extender that was introduced earlier this year. The unit is much revised, however, with a body that's 72 percent smaller than the original, and now nearly the quarter of the size of the power adapter for the Xbox 360. It's also power efficient, rated at under 5 watts.

Once it ships, the unit will have the ability to play back 1080p video in MPEG-1, H.264, and WMV9 codecs, as well as the ability to browse the web. Users will need to connect their Media Center-equipped Windows 7 or 8 PCs to the device using an Ethernet cable, as there is no Wi-Fi onboard. It can stream recorded TV on the Windows PC to any connected TV in the house.

It will cost $179 when it arrives around late November, or just in time for Thanksgiving.
