Coupon company moves into Square, OpenTable territory
Groupon has announced its first point-of-sale system for retail, Breadcrumb. The technology is iPad-only, but designed to be easily connected to hardware such as cash drawers and receipt printers. On top of handling transactions, the system also presents information on topics like sales figures, and food and labor costs.
Breadcrumb costs a minimum of $99 for one month of service on a single iPad. $199 extends support to two iPads, while $299 includes five, and $399 covers 10. If necessary, iPads can be bought through Groupon at a discount.
The system also represents Groupon's first attempt at branching out from its namesake coupons and mobile apps. The POS market has a number of competitors, most notably Square and OpenTable, which similarly rely on mobile apps.
