New Galaxy Tab to support Wi-Fi hotspot feature

A 4G-capable version of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be coming to Sprint's network some time in the near future, the two companies announced today. Packing a 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 chipset, the Tab 2 10.1 will be able to leverage its data connection into mobile hotspot capability, supporting up to 10 Wi-Fi enabled devices simultaneously. The Samsung tablet will run Android 4.0 at its release, though Samsung has promised that it will receive an upgrade to version 4.1 in the near future.

In addition to its 1.5GHz processor, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 features a 10.1-inch WXGA PLS TFT display outputting at 1280x800. It also packs 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB with a microSD card. It has Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11b/g/n connectivity, a 3MP rear camera with LED flash, and a VGA front-facing camera.

The new Galaxy Tab comes with Samsung Media Hub, which grants access to a full library of video and literary content. It also features an IR Blaster, which emulates an infrared remote control and allows the device to function as a universal remote. Users can also use Samsung's AllShare service to wirelessly share stored music and other content over Wi-Fi.

The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be available later this year. Pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.
