Apple to allegedly be sole distributor
The iPhone 5 should ship to India on the last Friday of October, the 26th, several sources tell BGR. Unusually, Apple is expected to be distributing the device on its own in the country, instead of also going through carriers and/or third-party vendors, as it does elsewhere. At the same time, BGR suggests that the iPhone 5 may have a broader availability in India than previous iPhones.
The 5 is also expected to cost about the same as the iPhone 4S did at launch. However, one of its main features -- LTE 4G -- won't work in India. The 5 supports only a limited range of LTE frequencies, and regardless, India's high-speed cellular networks are generally underdeveloped.
