AT&T return, cancellation period drops to 14 days

updated 06:51 pm EDT, Sat October 6, 2012

Damaged equpiment must be returned in same period

Customers purchasing new AT&T phones and devices will soon find that they have only 14 days to return the product or cancel their service should they be unsatisfied with it. Engadget has confirmed with the carrier that it is shrinking the span of its return period to just two weeks, effective tomorrow. The carrier notes that it will make available a grace period while customers adjust to the new policy, though it is uncertain how long that period may last.

Customers purchasing a device or service through AT&T before October 7, 2012 will still have a 30-day period for return or cancellation. Starting tomorrow, though, customers will only have 14 days to return equipment or cancel service. Customers terminating service within such a period will not be subject to the early termination fee; after the fourteenth day, though, the early termination fee applies.

Should a customer cancel service within three days of activation, the activation fee will be waived.

Customers activating their devices and service at a national retailer will also be subject to the 14-day limit. Those customers must return the phone to the national retailer before AT&T can complete the cancellation.
