Zuckerberg amazed, humbled by user numbers

Over one billion people are actively using Facebook each month, according to Mark Zuckerberg. The service reached the milestone figure on September 14, with Zuckerberg calling the feat "amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life" in a statement earlier today, adding that he hopes to "connect the rest of the world too."

Since the service launched, it has played host to 1.13 trillion likes, 140.3 billion friend connections, and 219 billion photo uploads. Over 62 million songs have been played 22 billion times, equating to around 210,000 years worth of music. The average age of users has lowered over time, from 26 years at 100 million members in August 2008 to 22 years old now.

In July, the service's first quarterly financial report claimed the social network had 543 million users accessing through a mobile device, up 110 million from the start of the year. The next quarterly results are scheduled to be released later this month, with the company hoping to improve on its $743 million loss last quarter. It will have to absorb the cost of the recently completed Instagram deal, valued at around $736.5 million, down from the initial valuation of $1 billion.
