AT&T set to launch Samsung's 4G-connected Galaxy Camera

updated 04:37 pm EDT, Thu October 4, 2012

Arrival expected within weeks

AT&T has announced plans to launch Samsung's Galaxy Camera. The carrier will be among the first to offer the Android-powered point-and-shoot camera, which can connect via LTE or Wi-Fi for picture uploading or direct posting to social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Users can also transfer images and videos to nearby Galaxy S III or Galaxy Note II devices via Wi-Fi Direct.

The Galaxy Camera features a 16-megapixel backside-illuminated CMOS sensor and 21x optical zoom, while a quad-core 1GHz processor helps power Android 4.1 and the image processing engine. Like Samsung's other high-end Galaxy smartphones, the interface is presented on a 4.8-inch 1280x720 touchscreen.

Users can choose from several shooting modes, including an Action Freeze mode for fast-moving subjects or scenes, a Light Trace mode for night shots, and a Blue Sky mode that optimizes the color balance and exposure on sunny days. The video mode also provides several options, including a slow-motion mode that shoots at 120fps.

AT&T has yet to disclose pricing details, though the Galaxy Camera is promised to arrive in the coming weeks.
