iPhone 5 data leaks also affecting AT&T, Sprint subscribers

updated 03:57 pm EDT, Mon October 1, 2012

Only Verizon phones fixed so far

Verizon subscribers aren't the only ones who have been experiencing data leaks with the iPhone 5, notes the New York Times and 9to5Mac. The Times writes that the issue may be affecting AT&T and Sprint customers as well. 9to5 goes into detail about the AT&T side; one person complains that he's already accrued over $100 in overage fees, while another says that they managed to consume 2GB of cellular data in three days.

Like most smartphones, when an iPhone 5 is connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot it's supposed to shut off 3G or 4G data entirely. People affected by the data leaks, however, have been noticing cellular data continuing to run, sometimes resulting in massive overages. Apple has already fixed the problem for Verizon subscribers, but has yet to take any steps for AT&T or Sprint.
