Modbook Pro replaces hard disks with solid state storage

updated 07:10 pm EDT, Sun September 30, 2012

Pre-orders set to start October 3rd

The resurrected Modbook Pro will be made available with a selection of SSD-only drives. The change from standard hard disks to solid state drives will give the tablet computers a significant speed boost compared to previous versions of the Macbook Pro modification, which is set to go on sale by mid-November.

SSD options will start at 64GB for the standard edition, ramping up to 480GB. It will still use the original hardware of a Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion, and uses a combination of a Wacom digitizer and a ForceGlass pen to offer 512 levels of pen pressure sensitivity. It is still likely to have options for a 2.5GHz dual-core i5 processor or a 2.9GHz dual-core i7 processor, at least 8GB of RAM, an 8x SuperDrive, Intel HD 4000 graphics, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and Thunderbolt connectivity. A one-year warranty will still be provided by authorized Modbook service centers, due to the nullification of Apple's own warranty in the process of manufacture.

Full pricing, specifications, and availability information will be announced by the company next week, while pre-orders will commence from October 3rd.
