LG releases Optimus Vu sequel just six month after the original

LG has officially launched the Optimus Vu 2, its second take on the 'phablet' category made popular by Samsung's original Galaxy Note. The sequel has arrived in quick succession to the original, which was only went on sale in South Korea six months ago. The updated 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and RAM bump to 2GB appears timed so that the Vu 2 can better challenge Samsung's recently unveiled Galaxy Note 2.

The Optimus Vu 2 also sports a slightly higher capacity 2,150mAh battery than the original Optimus Vu, which LG says has sold in excess of 500,000 in just two markets. It packs an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel camera as well as NFC and an IR blaster that is supplemented by a Qremote app that turns the Vu 2 into a universal smart remote control. It also supports voice-over-LTE and comes with a 'One Key' accessory that helps to locate the device should the user some how manage to misplace the Vu 2.

Surprisingly, the Optimus Vu 2 will ship with the superseded Android 4.0 'Ice Cream Sandwich' OS, and not the latest version Android 4.1 'Jelly Bean.' The 4:3 ratio 5-inch display from the original model also continues. The device is set to go on sale in South Korea for the equivalent of $864. [via Phandroid]
