Zune store replacement to have subscription, free options

Images of the oncoming Xbox Music Pass, originally revealed in June and considered to be the spiritual successor to the Zune marketplace, have leaked online. The service, according to images received by Engadget, will allow music to be downloaded and synchronized across the Xbox, Windows, and Windows Phone platforms, and appears to offer various subscription options.

There will apparently be two subscriptions available to users, namely a monthly charge of 9 ($15) or a yearly 90 ($150). An option for a 14-day free trial is also visible, although a post on NeoGAF claims that a free advertising-funded streaming option will also be available to use. Microsoft has already been working with record labels to secure the rights to stream and store music with an online locker accessible from multiple devices.

It is suggested that a more official announcement from Microsoft will be made closer to the Windows 8 launch in October.
