Google celebrates 25 billion apps served with five days of specials

Google Play has crossed the 25 billion apps downloaded milestone, according to its Android Official Blog. It reached its latest milestone just three months after reaching the 20 billion apps served, marking a sharp upward trend in app downloads as captured in Google's graph embedded below. To celebrate, Google is launching a series of special offers to mark the occasion.

Each day for the next five days, Android users will be able to choose from a collection of apps from leading developers including Gameloft, Electronic Arts, Rovio, Runtastic, Full Fat for 25 cents each. Google says it will also be offering some special collections, including 25 movies you must own, 25 banned books, 25 albums that changed the world and its 25 top selling magazines also at special prices. The deals will go live over the course of today.

Google also divulged that it is now reselling around 657,000 apps on Google Play, just behind Apple's claimed 700,000 apps for iOS. With Android undoubtedly the dominant mobile operating system, Google's open source operating system appears to be on a path of ongoing growth with no signs indicating that its wave of success is anywhere near cresting.
