iPhone 5 screen tested against iPhone 4, Galaxy S III

Imaging quality site DisplayMate has conducted a test comparing the iPhone 5's new larger display against that of the iPhone 4 and Samsung's Galaxy S III. DisplayMate ran a series of mobile display tests on the three phones, finding that the iPhone 5 has a much better display than the iPhone 4. The new iPhone's screen makes for better outdoor viewing and bests the iPhone 4 in all areas save viewing angle and brightness decrease. The Galaxy S III was found to have a lower maximum brightness and less calibrated color gamut. The GS III's comparative shortcomings, though, were deemed to stem in part from the fact that OLED technology is not as advanced as LCD technology.

Phone 5, Galaxy S III get SquareTrade toughness test

SquareTrade recently put the iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S III through a battery of assaults to determine the toughness of each device. The two flagship phones were dropped, battered, submersed, and subjected to all manner of other punishment. Apple's new iPhone came out on top, managing to function throughout the battery tests with little beyond cosmetic damage. The G S III, however, fared much less poorly, with its screen apparently shattering easily and ceasing to function when submerged.

Galaxy Note II bound for Telus

Samsung's Galaxy Note II phablet will be coming to Telus this fall. The Canadian carrier announced today that it would be carrying the successor to Samsung's successful Galaxy Note when it launches later this year. The Note II features a bigger screen than did its predecessor, while maintaining a smaller form factor. It will run Android 4.1 at release. Telus has not provided a specific date for the launch, but it is expected for some time in the fall.
