Dock allows for automatic wake of receiver by iPhone
Onkyo is soon to release an iOS docking station with wireless capability for its receivers. As well as having a 30-pin connector which also charges an iPad, iPod, or iPhone, the DS-A5 will also allow receivers from other manufacturers to take advantage of the AirPlay wireless streaming, and the streaming of audio files from computers with iTunes installed.
When docked with an iOS device, digital audio out sends the signal directly to the DAC of the receiver, while more standard analog stereo outputs can connect the DS-A5 to legacy audio hardware. The Wi-Fi connection can be supported by a wired Ethernet network connection, while a Remote Interactive cable can automatically power on an Onkyo reciever from an iPhone, just by selecting to play through AirPlay.
The DS-A5 dock will go on sale in October in the US for $200, and $230 in Japan. There are currently no plans for a Lightning-enabled version. [via Akihabara News]
