Client version fixes menu bug in

Just a week after making an update to Remote Desktop Admin to close a security bug, the company has pushed out 3.6.1 for both the Admin and Client version of Apple Remote Desktop (ARD). The new update fixes a specific Lion issue as well as improves launch speed when long computer lists are present, the reliability of migrated computer lists when upgrading from earlier versions, and offers better handling of remote computers with more than one display. The iPhone Configuration Utility for Windows was also updated.

For Mountain Lion users, the update is available through the Mac App Store, but is also included automatically in the 10.8.2 update. In Lion, users who bought Remote Desktop from the Mac App Store will receive the update from the store; those who installed ARD from a disc will need to download the update manually from Apple's Support Downloads page. ARD 3.6 shipped with Mountain Lion, so the update represents a significant version jump for Lion users.

The Client version of ARD, which for most users is simply built into the OS, fixes an issue that stopped the ARD menu extra from loading correctly in Lion. Admins can upgrade client versions of ARD to 3.6.1 in Lion by using the Upgrade Client Software feature in the Admin version of 3.6.1, or simply updating to the latest version of Mountain Lion if possible. ARD sells for $80.

For Windows users, the iPhone Configuration Utility -- a tool that lets admins create, edit, encrypt and install configuration profiles on enterprise iPhones -- has been updated to version 3.5. No specific changes were listed, but the OS X version was updated to v3.5 in March. The program produces XML configuration profiles that contain security policies, VPN configuration data and settings for Wi-Fi, APN, Exchange and other mail and certificates.
