HP shows LED-backlit, 11mm thick x2401 monitor with MVA tech

Among many other unveilings made by HP on Thursday, the PC giant showed off its upcoming x2401, a 24-inch monitor that supports 1080p resolution and is just 0.43-inch (11mm) thick. It uses LED backlights and is dressed up with a glossy black piano finish and housed in a brushed-metal body. Unlike some other recent monitors from the company, the x2401 uses Multi-domain Vertical Alignment (MVA) rather than In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology.

This is said to provide faster response times, viewing angles that sit between Twisted Nematic (TN) and IPS monitors, and proper 8-bit color display. The colors do tend to shift with viewing angle, however. The monitor has a 5,000:1 static and 10 million to one dynamic contrast ratio.

Ports include both a DisplayPort and HDMI input for flexible use. There is an integrated wall mount as well.

The x2401 will ship on November 7, priced at $250. A business version, the L2401x, with a three-year warranty instead of just a one-year warranty will arrive at the same time, priced at $260.
