Android Google Maps app sees update

updated 07:28 pm EDT, Wed September 19, 2012

Persistent search results across devices

The Google Maps for Andriod app got an update today, bringing a number of functionality changes as well as added search capabilities. The update was announced in a post on the Google Lat Long blog today. The new features will allow Android users to more easily use Google Maps while moving between devices.

The update brings a sort of persistent search results and mapping history to the app. Users that search from any device while signed into a Google account with web history enabled will now have see the app auto-completing entries if they have been searched for before. The app can also display a user's mapping search history and directions history. As with previous versions, users can also set locations to correspond to terms like "home" or "work," and those locations will pop up whenever that term is entered into the search field.

The new Maps update is available as a free download at Google's Play Store.
