Midday updates norm for iOS releases
iOS 6 should be released through iTunes and iCloud at around 10AM Pacific time, or 1PM Eastern, reports note. Apple released iOS 4 and iOS 5 at around the same hour on their respective launch days, and is likely to stick to the same schedule for the new firmware. Absinthejailbreak.org has created a chart illustrating at what time many major cities around the world should have access.
iOS 6 will be the first major iOS release available through the over-the-air upgrade system Apple introduced last year. It could potentially put a heavy strain on the company's servers, since people who would normally have to wait to get home to upgrade will be able to start their download at work or school. To update to iOS 6 when synced with a computer, people must have iTunes 10.7 installed.
