Hasselblad's Lunar mirrorless camera will have out-of-this-world $6,500 price tag

High-end camera maker Hasselblad has just revealed the first of its products that is a sign of things to come. The Lunar is the first camera that is based on an existing Sony shooter, in this case the mirrorless NEX-7. Both share many technical specs, including the 24.3-megapxiel APS-C sensor, Bionz processor, and a three-inch swiveling rear display.

Hasselblad's Lunar is dressed up with a more luxurious exterior, however, with a high-quality aluminum body and unique, vintage-looking control knobs together with either a carbon fiber or wood grip. The carbon can be had in black, silver, or titanium shades, while the wood can be specified in beech, olive, pear, or mahogany.

What's vastly different between the two cameras is their price. The NEX-7 will cost $1,100 for just the body, while the Lunar will carry a hefty 5,000 euros (about $6,530) price tag. Luxurious options such as more expensive finish materials will be available to bring that price even higher. The camera is due to ship in the first quarter of 2013.

Other specs that mirror the NEX-7 include a 10 fps bust mode, 1080p video recording at 24fps, an ISO range of 100 to 1,600 and a shutter lag of just 0.02 seconds.

The companies are also rumored to partner together on a future high-end DSLR. [via SonyAlphaRumors]
