Carrier looks to draw customers away from rivals

Nano-SIM cards are being delivered to T-Mobile USA by mid-October at the latest, a leaked document shows. A SIM card comparison chart notes that the cards are intended explicitly for iPhone 5 owners, since "the only phone in that currently uses a Nano SIM card is the Apple iPhone 5." It also mentions that the cards will be available through "Care, Retail, and"

9to5Mac writes that in some cases, the nano-SIMs may already be arriving. To use one though a person has to have an unlocked iPhone 5, something that costs a minimum of $649 from Apple. People may also be able to get the cards to work with a hacked iPhone, but unofficial unlocks will have to wait until sometime after the 5 is released.

T-Mobile USA is now taking an unusually aggressive approach towards supporting the iPhone, even though it can't sell the device and can only offer 2G data plans for it. The company is the only national US carrier without the iPhone, owing to the unusual frequency bands it relies on. Apple may eventually build a model tailored to support T-Mobile.
