The latest home theater projector from Panasonic allows customizing 3D content

Panasonic just took the wraps off its latest home theater projector, the 3D-capable PT-AE8000U. Offering 1080p resolution, the beamer also has 2,400 lumens of brightness and a 500,000:1 contrast ratio. The device is said to offer images that are 20 percent brighter and have less crosstalk than those offered by its predecessor, the PT-AE7000U.

Panasonic has long worked with Hollywood filmmakers to reproduce the kind of image quality that they intended. To prevent light leakage, for example, Panasonic used Pure Contract Plates to match the LCD panel's characteristics. There is also a 220W Red Rich Lamp that boosts red light intensity.

For 3D images, the projector's 3D Motion Remaster feature interpolates an image between alternately-created right and left images caused by the active shutter system. An integrated IR transmitter synchronizes active-shutter 3D glasses over an effective range of 20 feet. An optional transmitter will increase that range to 33 feet and can be mounted remotely.

A 3D Viewing Monitor and 3D Picture Balance features lets users customize their viewing experience. The former lets them see and adjust the amount of parallax in the images as well as highlight the positive and negative aspects. The latter lets them see right and left eye images next to each other and adjust color, contrast, and brightness accordingly.

The projector sports a 2x zoom lens and can throw up a 120-inch diagonal screen from just 11.8 feet away.

Connections include three HDMI inputs with DeepColor and x.v. Color along with two 12V triggers.

While pricing remains unknown, the projector is said to ship late this month or early in October at most dealers.
