updated 06:57 am EDT, Wed September 12, 2012

Range to include 50MP camera capable of 200MP images

Swedish camera maker Hasselblad is preparing an update to its H4D camera. The H5D succeeds its H System predecessor with a True Focus II system that is claimed to be more accurate than before and confirms when focus is locked. The company also worked on a modernization of the physical design, a smoother and more intuitive user interface, and a new hardware architecture.

The series will have models in ranging from 40 megapixels to 60 megapixels, including a 50-megapixel Multi-Shot version capable of 200-megapixel photographs using the company's multi-exposure and sensor-shifting technique. A macro converter allowing Hasselblad's HC50, HCD 28 and HC35 lenses to perforrm close-focus shots was announced, alongside the HCD 4.8/24 lens that acts like a 17mm lens on a 35mm SLR.

Shipping in December for a currently unknown price, the H5D will come with Adobe Lightroom 4 and Hasselblad Phocus 2.7 as included software. Further details of its launch will be released at the company's Photokina press conference. [via Digital Photography Review]
