Hasselblad prepares H5D for sale with modernized design

Range to include 50MP camera capable of 200MP images

Swedish camera maker Hasselblad is preparing an update to its H4D camera. The H5D succeeds its H System predecessor with a True Focus II system that is claimed to be more accurate than before and confirms when focus is locked. The company also worked on a modernization of the physical design, a smoother and more intuitive user interface, and a new hardware architecture.

The series will have models in ranging from 40 megapixels to 60 megapixels, including a 50-megapixel Multi-Shot version capable of 200-megapixel photographs using the company's multi-exposure and sensor-shifting technique. A macro converter allowing Hasselblad's HC50, HCD 28 and HC35 lenses to perforrm close-focus shots was announced, alongside the HCD 4.8/24 lens that acts like a 17mm lens on a 35mm SLR.

Shipping in December for a currently unknown price, the H5D will come with Adobe Lightroom 4 and Hasselblad Phocus 2.7 as included software. Further details of its launch will be released at the company's Photokina press conference. [via Digital Photography Review]
