OtterBox, Seidio, STM, iLuv announce iPhone 5 cases

New iPhone already covered from multiple providers


Just hours after the announcement of the new iPhone, a multitude of iDevice accessory makers have announced new covers for Apple's longer, thinner smartphone. The new cases cover a range of prices, colors, and functionality. Most are expected to launch along with the iPhone 5, and many are currently available for pre-order.

OtterBox announces Defender, Commuter, Reflex, and Prefix cases

OtterBox today announced four different cases for the iPhone 5. The Defender series is designed for more demanding conditions, with a rubberized case and built-in screen protection, as well as an interior shell designed to protect the iPhone from drops and a belt clip with locking function. The Commuter series also has built-in screen-protecting film to prevent scratches, an interior slipcover, and tabs covering the iPhone's ports, preventing dust and lint from accumulating. The Reflex series features a lightweight design for on-the-go use, as well as air cushions built into its corners to absorb sudden impacts. It also features a self-adhering screen protector to prevent scratches and scuffs. Finally, the Prefix series is easy to slip onto the new iHone, features built-in screen protection, and has a polycarbonate inner structure to help the case hold its shape.

All cases feature camera openings that leave available the iPhone 5's camera and flash. Defender cases retail for $60, Commuter and Reflex for $35, and the Prefix series for $25. Defender and Commuter units are available for pre-order, while the Prefix and Reflex cases are listed as coming soon. Further information is available at OtterBox's site.

Seidio launches new line of iPhone 5 accessories

Seidio has announced new additions to its line of accessories, additions specifically targeted to the iPhone 5. The new cases include the Surface, Active, and Convert models. The Surface is a thin case available in black, garnet red, royal blue, amethyst, and sage. It is available with or without a kickstand, allowing users to prop the iPhone 5 in a way that makes video watching easier. It will retail for $30 without a kickstand and $35 with a kickstand. The non-kickstand version can be upgraded to a case-holster combo for $50 total, while the kickstand version can be upgraded to a case-holster combo for $55.

The Active case model provides more protection and comes in the same color range as the Surface model. It retails for the same price points as the Surface model, and it has the same option for an upgrade to a kickstand or kickstand and holster model.

The Convert model builds on the Surface case, allowing users to add protective layers as needed for rougher environments. It comes in black, and a sand gray model is due for release in the next few weeks. It retails for $50 and comes with a locking holster and Seidio's Ultimate Screen Guard. STM rolls out opera, harbour, arvo cases

STM announced a range of iPhone cases inspired by famous Australian icons, including the Sydney Opera House. The opera line features a lightweight and flexible body and is available in black, gray, pink, blue and white. The harbour line has a dual-layer construction for greater protection, while its TPU interior surface protects the iPhone 5's body from scratches. It will also be available in black, gray, pink, blue, and white. The arvo line also features a dual-layer construction and TPU interior. It also integrates a stand that allows the iPhone 5 to be stood up on its side. it will come in black, gray, pink, blue, and white. The opera line is available for order for $30 from RadTech. Further information on the harbour line is available at STM's site, and the arvo line will be available in October of this year.

iLuv shows off ten new cases

iLuv announced ten new case designs meant for the iPhone 5 today. Ranging in design and function, the cases will range between $20 and $55.

The Twain Dual Protection case is an ultra-thin hardcover case protecting the iPhone 5's screen. It has a dual-material back cover that protects the phone's back while allowing for easy gripping. It has a suggested price of $35.

The Topog Mesh Softshell case has a raised topographical-inspired lattice design. Its design ventilates the phone and cushions it from damage. It will be on sale for $30.

The Pulse Case features two different pieces, creating a contrast of colors and textures. The inner layer covers the sides and back of the iPhone 5 but allow access to ports and controls. The second layer has raised, shock-absorbing ridges interlocking with the first layer for extra protection. It has a suggested price of $30.

The Mazarin Diamond Cut Harshell Case's diamond-cut design features a hardshell material meant to minimize dents and scratches from everyday use. It will retail for $30.

The Camera Case has a netted pocket for earphones and cables and a vintage camera design. It will retail for $40.

The Mummy & Ninja Silicon Character case features glow-in-the-dark character designs. It is made of micro-injected silicone that protects the phone from bumps and scratches. It has a suggested retail price of $25.

The Regatta case comes in a range of colors, with a dual-layer case providing interior and exterior protection. It is designed to fit snugly to the iPhone 5 while providing access to the device's ports and controls, and it will retail for $30.

The Festival Hardshell Case has a durable hardshell construction. It features the most protection of any of iLuv's cases, and it retails for $30.

The Snoopy Glow case, like the Mummy & Ninja Case, features a glow-in-the-dark design and injected silicone build. It also has a non-slip coating to prevent drops. It will retail for $25.
