iCloud problems persist into second day

Greater number of users now affected
Yesterday's iCloud problems are still ongoing, users are complaining. Apple's system status page indicates that access to Mail is still "slow or unavailable," and specifically that people may encounter delays with incoming email. Although Apple is promising that service will be restored as soon as possible, the number of affected users has actually expanded from 0.17 percent to 1.1 percent.
The problem is badly timed for Apple, since the company is hosting a San Francisco press event today which should see the introduction of new iCloud-dependent devices, namely the iPhone 5 and an updated iPod touch. Apple may also be planning to release iOS 6, in case the sheer bandwidth demand could exacerbate any network issues the company is dealing with.
