Earbuds 'designed to direct sound into the ear'
Alongside its new iPhone and other iOS products, Apple has unveiled today a redesign of its signature white earbuds. Dubbed "EarPods," the new headphones are said by Apple to have spent the past three years in the design and development process. Apple has designed the new earbuds so that they will fit everyone, according to Apple design guru Jon Ive.
Apple claims that EarPods are "designed to direct sound into the ear." The rear port on the headphones handles mid-range frequencies, while the stem port handles bass tones. Apple's new design is said to improve low response and provide clearer sound.
The new design was leaked last week, revealing the first redesign in Apple's headphones since the company debuted them in 2006. EarPods will be shipping standard with Apple's new line of iOS devices, and they will also be available as a standalone product. Apple has not revealed any pricing information on the EarPods.
