updated 11:48 am EDT, Mon September 10, 2012

Sprint begins construction of LTE network infrastucture in over 100 cities

Sprint just revealed a timeline for bringing out its 4G LTE network to more than 100 cities. While not exact, the carrier outlined the full list of cities that will get the higher-speed mobile broadband network. Sprint said it has started construction of 4G infrastructure and will have the network up and running within the next few months.

Some of the major cities where work is being performed include Chicago, Boston, New York, and Los Angeles. Sprint presently offers 4G LTE in 19 large cities and surrounding areas.

Part of the Sprint Network Vision project, the updates are expected to be completed by the end of next year.

At the end of August, Sprint deployed the network in four more markets. It plans to have it up and running in 120 cities by year's end.

I can't believe that they did not include the sixth largest city (and 14th largest metropolitan area) in the country in this expansion: Phoenix, AZ. Well, when I get an LTE iPhone, I certainly won't be choosing Sprint as my carrier.
