Brookstone readies Rover 2.0 app-controlled tank for sale

updated 04:19 pm EDT, Mon September 10, 2012

Revised tank faster than previous version

Retailer Brookstone is releasing an updated version of its app-controlled tank. The Rover 2.0 is a tracked remote controlled vehicle that uses an iOS or Android app to steer, and can transfer video and audio received by the tank's built-in camera and microphone back to the mobile device. The resulting video and images can then be uploaded to social networks.

It is claimed to have a range of up to 200 feet when unobstructed, going down to 100 feet with interference from walls and furniture. Connectivity with the smartphone or tablet is done through the Rover generating its own Wi-Fi connection, which also allows for broadcasting sound to the tank itself, along with the aforementioned surveillance capabilities. As an upgrade to the previous version, the Rover 2.0 is 25 percent faster, has a new wide-angle lens, an ajustable camera angle, and the ability to turn the headlights off.

Up for pre-order now, the Rover 2.0 will be released in October and will cost $150.
