Apogee debuts Mac-centric Quartet audio interface

updated 11:39 am EDT, Tue September 4, 2012

Uses touch controls, 4x8 port setup

Apogee has formally revealed the Quartet, a new high-end audio interface aimed at Mac users. The unit has four standard inputs and eight outputs by default; the number of channels can also be increased by pairing with a Duet 2 or Ensemble, or fully exploiting the two optical inputs. The most conspicuous feature of the interface though is its nine touchpad controls, which are linked with the level displays. Three of the pads are custom-configurable.

Also present on the Quartet is a USB port for connecting to Macs, and a USB MIDI connection for instruments like keyboards. While the device is USB 2.0-based instead of exploiting USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt, Apogee says that USB 2.0 is "more than adequate" for bandwidth demands.

Apogee is selling the Quartet for $1,295.
