Battery fits leaked frame

Corroborating recent reports, a fresh leak surrounding the iPhone 5 suggests Apple's sixth-generation smartphone will integrate a slightly larger battery than its predecessor. An alleged iPhone 5 battery obtained by electronics repair company iResQ appears to perfectly within the phone frame that is also claimed to be sourced from the official assembly lines.

The iPhone 5 battery is said to run at 3.8 volts with a capacity of 5.45 watt hours, in contrast to the 3.7 volt, 5.3 watt hour battery found in the iPhone 4S, however the weight is claimed to have dropped from .96oz to .80oz. Thickness has reportedly been reduced, though the new battery appears to be nearly a half inch longer.

The modest gains in voltage and wattage suggest Apple may have found a way to embrace LTE technology without experiencing the battery drain that currently plagues many LTE-equipped smartphones. The sixth-generation model is also expected to integrate a larger display and a new processor designed in-house by Apple engineers.

Apple has officially scheduled a press event for September 12, where the iPhone is expected to be unveiled.
