New models first Windows 8 offerings from HP

HP has announced a pair of consumer-grade notebooks, amongst the first products from the manufacturer that will ship with Windows 8. The HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook and the HP Envy Touchsmart Ultrabook 4 feature multi-touch displays, third-generation Intel Core processors, and all-metal construction.

Featuring a 15.6-inch IPS Full HD multi-touch display, the HP SpectreXT TouchSmart Ultrabook weighs 4.77 pounds. The all-metal design has edge-to-edge glass, a glass touchpad, and tilted speakers with Beats Audio. Thunderbolt technology makes its debut with HP in this model. Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, HDMI, and a front-facing HD webcam round out the inputs on the device. The HP SpectreXT TouchSmart Ultrabook is due in December, with a starting price of $1,400. No other details such as RAM or processor speeds are available.

The HP Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook 4 offers a 14-inch multi-touch HD display, and weighs 4.77 pounds. A backlit keyboard, with the same array of ports as the HP SpectreXT TouchSmart Ultrabook, provide input for the device. An AMD discrete graphics processor unit with up to 2GB of VRAM can be chosen as an optional upgrade. The HP Envy TouchSmart will also be available sometime during the holiday season, with pricing and full specifications to be announced later.
