Dell revives Duo line with XPS Duo 12 for Windows 8

Dell XPS Duo 12 pitched as convertible ultrabook

Dell has revived its Duo line with the launch of the XPS Duo 12 for Windows 8. The company had previously launched the Inspiron Duo featuring a similar flip hinge design, as a convertible netbook running the less touch friendly Windows 7. The all-new XPS Duo 12, however, is a much more premium product incorporating top-tier materials including machined aluminum, carbon fiber as well as Corning Gorilla Glass.

As with before, Dell is promoting the XPS Duo 12 as two machines in one - a tablet in one configuration and an ultrabook in another. The device centers on a 12.5-inch 1080p display covered in edge-to-edge Gorilla Glass. It is powered by either an Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor and is expected to ship at the end of October in line with the world-wide launch of Windows 8.

Dell also took the wraps of the XPS 10 tablet, which will run Windows RT on ARM. Details are slight on the device at the time of writing, but it will ship with the option of a keyboard dock in the style of the Asus Transformer lineup.
