Samsung refreshes Series 5, 7 All-In-One PC lines

updated 06:13 pm EDT, Wed August 29, 2012

Improvements include ten-point multitouch, Jamie Oliver app

Samsung has shown off its new Series 7 and Series 5 All-In-One PCs at IFA 2012. Building on their existing AIO PC line including the 23" Series 7 brought to the US last September, the new machines include ten-point multitouch displays, a slim bezel on a metal base, Intel Core i3 processors, and are claimed to be designed to run Windows 8.

The display has a resolution of 1920x1080 and a viewing angle of 178 degrees vertically and horizontally, and offers gesture control from up to three feet away. Five hand gestures such as swiping and rotating the palm can be detected, without the need to touch the screen. Screen sizes range from 21.5-inch to 27-inch, up to 8GB of RAM can be installed, as well as a 1TB hard disk and 64GB SSD for storage. Jamie Oliver's Recipes, a cooking application, is pre-installed on each machine, with the suggestion by the company that the Series 5, with its keyboard and mouse able to fit between the base's legs, would be ideal for use in the kitchen.

The series refresh will take place on October 26 in the US, with the Series 7 costing between $1,100 and 1,700, and the Series 5 for $750.
