Cost-savings illustrated in new flyers, microSIM kits arriving
While T-Mobile isn't currently an iPhone carrier, the telecommunications company is making efforts to court users of the device anyhow. A successful pilot program undertaken in July at a handful of T-Mobile retail stores has induced the construction of a handout for unlocked iPhone users, demonstrating a two-year savings on T-Mobile's HSPA+ unlimited data plan of $1560 over AT&T's phone contracts. Additionally, T-Mobile retail stores are receiving new Monthly4G microSIM kits that support the iPhone 4 and 4S to "leverage for individuals bringing their own compatible device to be used on T-Mobile's network."
According to tmonews, the "east-coast area" that the iPhone kits for T-Mobile were tested in showed a 56% gain over regular store baseline sales in four locations when a functional iPhone running on the network was demonstrated. The new flyers, shown below, advertise the pricing advantages of T-Mobile's recent announcement of unlimited wireless internet service versus AT&T's current single-line and family plan pricing.
Supplementing the Monthly4G Micro SIM kit information is T-Mobile documentation addressing September training priorities, specifically "selling against the iPhone." The presence of the training item addressed to retail stores could point to T-Mobile not carrying the rumored iPhone 5, but retail stores are often not fully informed of corporate intentions and plans.
The Apple event is rumored to take place on September 12, and T-Mobile employees are expected to have completed training by October 5 for T-Mobile internal employees, and October 12 for "branded" employees, a full month after the expected iPhone announcement. [via tmonews]
