Cables adapt micro USB to new connector format
A source for iLounge has leaked photos of alleged Scosche accessories for Apple's new dock connector format. The gear -- identified as a "syncABLE Pro" wall charger, and a "reNUE Pro" car charger -- comes with adapter cables meant to allow a micro USB plug to attach to Apple devices. Scosche is also said to be working on multiple versions of the chargers with different levels of power support.
A third photo shows an iPhone 4S sitting inside a supposed next-generation iPhone case as a point of comparison for the new format. Regarding the Scosche accessories, the source doesn't have any prices or release dates to share.
The new dock connector type should be a boon to both Apple and accessory makers; while Apple will be able to engineer smaller and smaller devices, accessory makers will be able to sell new waves of products. The public will have the most trouble with the transition, since generations of accessories will be suddenly rendered obsolete. Apple is expected to debut the new format at a September 12th iPhone event.
