Archos Gen10 XS line to sport keyboard, Android 4.0

updated 01:59 pm EDT, Wed August 22, 2012

Android 4.1 update to arrive in Q4

Archos today unveiled its new Gen10 XS tablet line. The line consists of three slim Android tablets, all of which will ship running an unskinned version of Android 4.0. Devices in the Gen10 SX line will sport a novel form factor integrating a keyboard that also serves as a cover, dock, and stand for the tablet.

The new line includes the Archos 101 XS, 97 XS, and 80 XS. The 101 XS will be a 10.1-inch affair weighing in at 21 ounces and measuring 0.31-inches thick. The 97 XS will have a 9.7-inch screen, and the 80 XS will sport an 8-inch screen. All three tablets will have a 1.5GHz multi-core processor inside, as well as 1GB RAM.

The 101 XS will have an OMAP 4470 CPU with a PowerVR SGX544 GPU. Its 10.1-inch screen will output at 1280x800, and it will have 16GB of internal memory. The 101 XS will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and its memory will be expandable to 64GB with a microSD card. It will also sport Micro USB and Mini HDMI connection options.

A key feature of the new line will be Archos' new Coverboard attachment. The 0.2-inch thick protective cover secures to the tablet with magnets, which ensure that it will align correctly when attached. The Coverboard also integrates a magnetic kickstand, which angles the tablet for typing or media viewing.

Archos also announced a line of accessories designed for the Gen10 XS series. These include a speaker dock, a docking station with USB and audio ports, and a number of pouches in an assortment of colors.

The Gen10 XS series will ship with a complete version of OfficeSuite Pro 6, valued at $15, included. While the tablets will ship running Android 4.0, Archos says an update to Android 4.1 will be available in the fourth quarter of this year. The Archos 101 XS will debut in mid-September and will be priced at $400. The 80 XS and 97 XS will be released later in 2012.
